Registration is now open for the 2011-2012 season. Applications can be found HERE and classes are open either until filled or until three weeks into rehearsals. IFYAC has now made it possible to pay for tuition online through PayPal!

The Registration Fee is $40 and that will hold your child's spot in the choir. It is non-refundable, but goes toward the tuition costs. If you have other questions about registration or the choir, please contact us.

What a fabulous concert! The kids did such a wonderful job and I have received so many compliments from family members as well as general community members alike! Some pictures from the dress rehearsal and concert have been added to the Photo Gallery.

With our concert behind us, we are looking ahead to our next concert on May 13th, 2011. We will be learning new pieces and this would be a great time to join the choir if you are not already participating. Registration forms can be found HERE. Classes for the second semester will begin February 2nd and 3rd respectively.

If you are unable to attend the registration, you may fill out a form found HERE and send it in the mail with the registration fee ($40--applied to the total tuition cost). You may also print off the registration and bring it with you, or you can fill one out when you get there. Registration will stay open either until the classes are full or after three weeks into the semester, which ever comes first. If a class fills up, you will be put on a waiting list and will be contacted when an opening is available. The Eastern Idaho Children’s Choir is divided into three different choirs. Tuition covers the entire 26-week course, two formal concerts, and an IFYAC membership.

First Voices Choir: Pre-school—1^st Grade

Wednesdays 4:00-4:45. Tuition: $110

Prelude Choir: 2^nd Grade—4^th Grade

Wednesdays 5:00-6:00. Tuition: $130

Lyric Choir: 5^th Grade—8^th Grade

Thursdays 4:00-5:30. Tuition: $170

*Additional siblings will each receive a $20 discount toward their tuition.

Welcome to the Eastern Idaho Children's Choir website. We are the premier children's choir of Southeast Idaho, located in Idaho Falls. With school starting soon, we are getting ready to start a new year of choir.

What is IFYAC?{click the icon to learn more}

It is the Idaho Falls Youth Arts Centre--a non-profit organization created to improving fine arts education for children in the Idaho Falls and surrounding areas. The organization sponsors many events other than the Eastern Idaho Children's Choir. Every year, they have a fall musical. They also sponsor the annual Evening of Dance at the Civic Auditorium and Summer Theatre Camps for kids.

Uniforms

For our formal concerts, the choir members are required to have uniforms. Pictures of what they look like can be found by clicking on each choir's page. These may be purchased new or from a former choir member. Our uniforms are from French Toast (a school uniform supplier) and are very reasonably priced and everything is WASHABLE which is a must, especially for the really young ones. Choir members are allowed to wear their uniforms outside of the performances (to school, church, etc.) but it must be in good, clean condition for each concert. If the uniform is damaged because of outside use, it must be replaced before the concert. Average cost of the entire uniform is $20-$30 plus shipping.

Lyric Choir

5th--8th Graders. The Lyric Choir is an advanced choir which emphasizes in singing multiple parts. Because these young voices are not fully mature, they will sing all of the different parts, from low to high, but not out of their proper range. We do not use the terms Soprano and Alto in this class, but label them as parts (i.e. Part 1, Part 2, Part 3). During class, these students will prepare pieces to perform in two major concerts.

The Lyric Choir is a once-a-week, 1 hour 30 minute class. They meet on Thursdays from 4:00-5:30. All classes are at Hillcrest High School.

The Prelude Choir is a mid-level choir which continues to focus on unison singing as well as basic 2-part reading skills. During their hour-long class each week, they will prepare pieces to perform in the two major concerts for each season. In addition to learning songs for performance, they will learn fun songs/activities in class.

The Prelude Choir is a once-a-week, 1 hour class. They meet on Wednesdays from 5:00-6:00. All classes are at Hillcrest High School.

Mission and Goals

The mission of the Eastern Idaho Children’s Choir, a program of the Idaho Falls Youth Arts Centre, is to teach young people, ages 4-14, to value and experience excellent singing through musical activities which develop skills, sharing, self-expression and personal growth resulting in a lifelong appreciation of choral music.

The goals of the choir are to:

♫ Educate children in the western tradition of great choral music while also exposing them to a wide variety of musical cultures of the world.

♪ Combine a solid music education with opportunities to perform in and for the community.

♫ Develop confidence and self-discipline, assets that will last a lifetime.

♪ Provide a social setting that allows young people to explore creative ideas, to give a voice to a wide range of emotions, and to discover how to work effectively within a group.

♫ Experience the joy of making music together.

Tuition

Tuition payments are a one-time payment for the entire year (Sept.-May) but payment plans may be set up at registration or any other time with the IFYAC Choir Program Coordinator. There will be 26 weeks of class. In order to participate in the choir, you must have a current membership through IFYAC. Membership dues are $10 per person or $25 per family and last 12 months. Forms for IFYAC memberships are found at the bottom of the registration form.

TUITION:
First Voices Choir: $110 ($4.23 per 45 min. lesson)
Prelude Choir: $125 ($4.80 per 1 hour lesson)
Lyric Choir: $160 ($6.15 per 1 hour 30 min. lesson)

Family discounts:
You will receive $20 off each additional child's tuition

Limited scholarships are available. You may fill out and send in an application found on the ifyac.org website.

First Voices Choir

Pre-School--1st Graders. The First Voices Choir is an entry level choir emphasizing on unison singing. Students in this class will learn how to use their singing voices to sing in tune. They will prepare pieces to perform in two major concerts per season. In addition to learning songs for performance, they will learn fun activity songs to teach basic music skills.

The First Voices Choir is a once-a-week 45 minute class. They meet on Wednesdays from 4:00-4:45. All classes are at Hillcrest High School.

About the Conductor

The choir is sad to say goodbye to director/conductor of four years, Dana Gallant - she is moving to Utah. Dana will be missed!

The choir is happy to introduce the director/conductor for the 2011-2012 season, Megan Busath. (pronounced BYOO-sayth)

Megan received her Bachelor's Degree in Music Education from Brigham Young University - Idaho with an emphasis in Band Education. Her main instrument is the clarinet, but she is an accomplished pianist as well. In college, Megan performed with the BYU-Idaho Symphony Orchestra, Symphony Band, Chamber Orchestra, Sinfonietta, Viking Marching Band, Percussion Ensemble, Woodwind Ensemble and Clarinet Ensemble. During her senior year at BYU-I, she taught ear training skills (solfegge) to incoming freshmen. Megan student taught beginning mixed choir and Advanced Women's Choir at Hillcrest High School. After graduating magna cum laude from BYU-I, Megan worked at Hillcrest for the 2010-2011 school year, assisting mainly as the accompanist for the choirs, but also teaching small sectionals. In August 2011, Megan was hired as the part-time Band Director at Hillcrest High School. In the past, she has served as choir director at her church, and is currently the Music Specialist for girls ages 12-18. Megan has been a closet singer all her life, and is excited to teach such enthusiastic young singers!

Music

In the Eastern Idaho Children's Choir, we focus on high quality Western traditional choral music as well as the integration of multicultural music. Although most songs will be in English, in every concert, you will hear songs in different languages from Latin to Japanese. We are not a show choir, but we do add movement to appropriate songs to keep the kids engaged in the learning process.

We will loan each singer in the Prelude Choir and Lyric Choir a numbered folder and music at the start of the choir year. Singers will keep music and folders in good condition and keep a pencil with an eraser inside their music folder. Each singer is responsible for his or her music. Singers who lose or mistreat their music will be required to purchase a replacement copy of each piece and/or folder.

Folders and music may be checked out with the director at the end of
rehearsal and must be brought back the following week.

Grooming for Performance

Girls:

♪ Long hair will be pulled up out of the face. Half of the hair or all is fine. Short hair will be either pinned out of the face or held in place by a hair band

♫ No jewelry or wristwatch will be worn with the exception of small stud earrings

♪ No heavy makeup or nail polish

♫ Avoid sparkly/distracting hair accessories

♪ Blouse will be neatly tucked into skirt

Performance Etiquette

During a performance, a choir is judged as much on its professional behavior as it is on the performance it offers. Prior to the performance each singer is expected to:

♫ Know exactly what he or she is supposed to wear. The singers should inspect all the pieces of his or her uniform the day before the performance to make sure they are clean and wrinkle free.

♪ Arrive at and stay in the designated areas at all times for the performance, entering the building quickly and quietly.

♫ Go to the bathroom before lining up with the choir

♪ Listen carefully to all pre-performance instructions

While performing, each child is expected to:

♫ Maintain a proper stance with a quiet body

♪ Watch the director

♫ Remain focused

Rehearsal Etiquette

To perform well, the choir needs complete cooperation from everyone during rehearsals. An outstanding choir is one whose members:

♪ Are on time

♫ Enter and leave the building quickly and quietly

♪ Stay in designated area

♫ Go to the bathroom and get a drink before coming to choir (sometimes, there is no access to the restrooms in the school!)

♪ Leave running, yelling, horseplay, food and beverages (except for water) and gum at home

♫ Listen carefully to the director

♪ Do not talk out of turn during rehearsals

♫ Treat each other with respect, courtesy and kindness

♪ Have a positive attitude

Choir is a group experience. Everyone needs to cooperate. Singers who do not follow the rules may be asked to sit out the duration of the rehearsal. We will not allow the actions of one child to adversely affect the entire organization.

Attendance Policy

Success of the Choir is dependent on consistent attendance by the singers. We strive for 100% attendance by the singers at all rehearsal and performances. We recognize that special, non-routine events may arise that result in an occasional missed rehearsal by singers. Each singer is allowed up to 6 absences a year but we encourage singers to use them sparingly.

If a singer arrives late at rehearsal by 10 minutes or more or leaves the choir rehearsal early, it is counted as a tardy. Three tardies are equivalent to one absence.

Singers should arrive at rehearsals 10 minutes before starting time, but no earlier.
